Join the BYU Cougars for great soccer action headed by the women’s head coach Jennifer Rockwood and the men’s head coach Chris Watkins. Also on staff are current and former BYU soccer standouts from both nationally ranked programs. Campers will learn the basics of footwork, dribbling, passing, shooting, and heading. They will incorporate these skills in training settings and game scrimmages. Small coach–to–camper ratios allow kids to benefit from individual instruction and attention.

Camp Director—Jennifer Rockwood

Jennifer Rockwood

After completing her 14th season at the helm of the BYU women’s soccer program, Jennifer Rockwood has acquired a long list of impressive credentials, including seven conference titles, three national top ten finishes, and the 2008 MWC Coach of the year award. The Cougars have recently won back to back MWC titles and finished the 2008 season ranked #20 in the country. With an overall record of 228–70–21, Rockwood currently ranks 10th in the NCAA among active soccer coaches by winning percentage (.748). She has led her team to eleven NCAA tournament appearances in the last twelve years including three ‘Sweet 16’ appearances and a run to the ‘Elite 8’.

The Cougars regularly maintain a Top 25 ranking, establishing themselves as one of the premier women’s soccer programs in the country. Rockwood has been the head coach of BYU’s NCAA and club team (128–25–9) spanning the past 20 years. She has previously coached at the high school, club, and ODP levels in the state of Utah. She begins her 13th year as director of BYU Girl’s Soccer Camp and has been instructing at camps for over 21 years.

Camp Director—Chris Watkins

Chris Watkins

Chris Watkins begins his 14th year as head coach for the BYU men’s soccer team. He has compiled an overall record of 203–54–14, leading the team to Collegiate Club National Championships in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2001. The Cougars recently represented the university by traveling internationally, playing such clubs as F. C. Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano ( Spain), V.V. Sittard ( Holland), Pachuca and Club America ( Mexico) and Catolica (Chile). Coach Watkins led BYU in gaining a franchise in the United Soccer Leagues, the first Professional Franchise ever purchased by a collegiate institution. In 2005 he hosted the U.S. National Team before their World Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica. In 2006, Watkins hosted Coventry City, from England’s Championship League at South Stadium. In 2008, Watkins led the South Stadium construction project.

As a player, Coach Watkins was the Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state of Kansas. He played NCAA Division I soccer at Drake University and held the single season scoring record there. Most recently, Coach Watkins played for the Utah Blitzz in 2002, scoring the golden goal to win the Western Conference Championship.

BYU mens’ soccer has a great reputation nationally and internationally because of Watkins’ knowledge of the game, which not only builds great athletes but also quality players on and off the field. Chris and his wife Karen live in Mapleton, Utah with their sons Drake, Ethan and Tanner. Coach Watkins earned a Psychology degree from BYU.
